I like twitter, sometimes I LOVE twitter. I follow Hotel Max (@HotelMax) and am thoroughly excited for my first stay at the end of this week. Friday afternoon I saw a re-tweet by a friend of hotel max; a local massage therapist (@carissang)

I submitted the pictures at the bottom of the post and won a 1 night stay at Hotel Max, 1 hour massage with Carissa and $50 at Red Fin Sushi! (@RedFinJapanese) Kim and I are looking forward to our Valentines Adventure in Seattle!

New piece for Branch Whiskey Bar

I landed my first show on Alberta about 2 months ago at Branch Whiskey Bar, and it’s easy to say it’s been successful. The second of the four original pieces is leaving the restaurant saturday after one careful drinker was able to decipher it. Thus ending the conversation Kim and I had…

Her: “nobody will be able to read that.”

Me: “sure they will!”

Her: “No, nobody can tell what that says.”

Me: “Well, there will be one person who figures it out, and they’ll love it. I think this one will sell quick.”

BAM! I was totally right. So, the red whiskey haze will now live happily in the home of someone who will love it.

Mirrored Abstract

I have a client named Jim who has purchased two pieces from me and he wanted a mirror painted to compliment the other two. First I gave him Golden Thoughts, then he commissioned the Wood Grain Sunrise that has been so popular since it was completed. (pictures at the end of post)

Here is the new Mirror, I prefer the orientation where the whiter side is up. I taped off the mirror, painted it, then pulled the tape and scratched paint off to bring the mirror and paint surface together more. The mirror is cool because it’ll reflect random objects from different angles. It’s a little difficult to decipher between the painting, mirror and reflection sometimes but I think with his other two paintings it’ll fit right in.

So this may still be a work in progress – I’m considering another background layer. I really like how the letters gave this painting so much depth. Props to Special K for helping to turn a painting blunder into a success with the broken letters.

"Powder" – Graffiti for your walls

I had painted a “powder” painting a friend quite a while back. I hated the way it turned out, and ever since I turned it over I feel like I have been asking to paint over it. This marks attempt #2 at putting “POWDER” on a 36″ x 36″ canvas. I think I need more room.

Finished up these two pieces last night. The bigger one is a commissioned piece, but I liked the idea a ton so I made a second one to show. Un-named as of yet, but I’m thinking about swapping this skinny one out at Bombs away.

Process:

Tape wood panels

Spray Primer every inch including sides

Green, Orange, Light and Dark blue spray paint over the primer (for accents)

Cobalt Blue and White Acrylic House Paint layer

Ball of Tape used for texture and to bring out accents

Paint edges black

Pull tape

Gloss Coat
